A copy of the email I sent out to my buds this morning:
As you may know on January 6th I begin my next journey toward remission. I will be at Hackensack University Medical Center for about two weeks for my stem cell transplant. The procedure is simple it just takes time for my immunity to build back up so that I can enter the real world again. Not as bad as Travolta in The Boy in the Bubble but we want to be rather careful here.
One of the side effects of Chemotherapy is hair loss. I have been fortunate enough through my first 12 cycles to keep what little hair I have but in this instance the high dose Melphalan they will give me on January 6th will most likely cause me to lose whatever is left. Interestingly enough, back hair will remain I am told.
In keeping with the spirit in which I have fought this disease all along I will NOT let Cancer dictate when and if I will lose my hair. I am taking matters into my own hands and if you would like to help – feel free.
I am inviting you all over this Sunday, January 5th, to drink some libations, eat good food, watch NFL playoff games and take a swipe at my head with a Gillette Mach 3. That’s right – we are having a head shaving party this Sunday!
SUNDAY JANUARY 5TH, 2014
NFL PLAYOFFS AND HEAD SHAVING
FOOD, DRINKS AND FOOTBALL
12 NOON UNTIL WHENEVER
Please, please, please pass this email along to anyone I may have missed – I have Cancer for goodness sakes!
Look forward to seeing you here … if the idea is too gross for you just plan on watching football, eating and drinking. If the idea is too gross for everyone I will get this done from Anthony at the Towne Barber Shoppe.
By the way – if anyone who is reading this wants a swipe – you all are invited over as well. ONE WEEK TO GO BEFORE REMISSION!
